Visit to Salisbury Museum Sunday, November 17th, 2024.
Our last Sketchers event for the year was very successful with fifteen members taking part. There was a wealth of subjects to draw from within the museum collections and at the end of the afternoon, over a cup of tea, it was good to look at each other's drawings depicting a variety of subjects from Flintstones to a fireplace!
The Trinity Buoy Wharf drawing exhibition elicited a few comments about some of the more controversial works on display. The first prize had gone to a wall display of wire objects that didn't appear to conform to the dictionary definition of drawing: 'a picture or diagram made with a pencil, pen, or crayon rather than paint'. But it's always good to engage in conversations about what is considered to be worthy art.
I would like to thank everybody for coming along and supporting our sketching group. It's very rewarding at the end of a session to see the artworks produced, from simple line drawings to colourful paintings.
I am looking forward to getting out and about with everybody in the New Year and will endeavour to find interesting locations to suit everybody. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
